|Decca Studios Tollington Park - 106 Tollington Park London philsbook.com|
In the early seventies Decca acquired premises in Tollington Park to build a project studio to take the overflow from its Broadhurst Gardens studios. Pop and Rock artists, particularly The Moody Blues, were now spending a considerable amount of time in the studios making albums and having a separate building for such recordings seemed to be the way forward.
The house was built in 1839 as one of nine late-Georgian villas and completely renovated and converted by the Decca engineers.
By the end of the 70's Decca closed all its studios and the premises were sold off.
Jam Studios where opened in 1979 by Swedish brothers Hans and Anders Nordmark in the Decca Tollington Park building.
After the studio had closed the house became a Masonic hall, before falling into the shambolic state and being uninhabited for six years. It was sold at auction in 1993. It was all but derelict, surrounded by 6ft-high nettles when purchased in a renovation project that was to take 10 years.
The building now houses 'Susan Scott lookalikes'.
